"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"..... Nelson Mandela. In the words of this great South African icon, we at Sahihi Medical Solutions Limited paraphrase to say, "health education in regard to advances in technology and procedures is the most potent tool to change patient care for the better". It is for that matter that we invite you to scroll and navigate through this interactive and informative page on topics that will interest you as a healthcare professional. At the same time, this information will also be of value to the non-medical person who will take his or her time to read through.

We highlight the solutions that we provide in response to the challenges identified the areas of breast imaging, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, MRI and CT imaging

Furthermore, at Sahihi Medical Solutions we offer services and products to improve diagnostic and therapeutic accuracy as well as increase the patient's comfort and satisfaction.  Once again, we invite you to learn about the following:

  1. Breast Imaging Solutions

  2. Radiation Oncology Solutions

BREAST IMAGING SOLUTIONS

Breast health and care is a broad yet sensitive topic due to the fact that presenting complaints can be worrisome to the patient and health worker alike. We know that most of these are usually benign but thorough evaluation with conclusive diagnosis is the only foolproof way to assuage such a situation.

Breast health starts with the woman, (and yes man as well) by doing breast self examination (BSE). This is a recommended monthly procedure starting at the age of 18 years. Click here for a video demonstration on performing breast self examination.

When there are concerns the patient presents to a health care worker(clinician) who performs clinical breast examination. The clinician makes more diagnostic decisions and imaging plays an integral role in all this.

Imaging has both screening and diagnostic roles. The methods used in breast imaging include mammography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The clinician and imaging specialists (radiologists and radiographers) discuss and decide the most appropriate modality for the patient depending on certain patient and lesion characteristics.

Screening for breast disease is a sure way of detecting malignant lesions at an early stage that can be totally curable. While there is no ideal screening test, mammography is the only scientifically proven screening method that reduces mortality (saves lives) from breast cancer. Mammography should therefore be embraced by our population as a useful tool for breast screening.

Mammography has inherent challenges in its processes that have to be addressed for it to optimally achieve its screening and diagnostic value. These may manifest at the positioning, acquisition, interpretation and biopsy phases.

Now radiologists and radiographers in Kenya, have the opportunity to improve diagnostic accuracy and make the patient's experience more comfortable during mammography by using our Beekley Medical products that address positioning, image acquisition/interpretation and post-biopsy care.

  1. Positioning - The radiographer who routinely performs mammograms will definitely attest to the fact that there is a "chill" on the part of the patient during the positioning phase on the receptor. Bella Blankets will address this challenge. Click here for product information and video education on application .

  2. Image acquisition and interpretation - Beekley Spots skin markers for nipples, moles, masses, scars and areas of concern improvediagnostic accuracy . Click here for more product education and demonstration.

  3. Post-biopsy care - Cold therapy is a scientifically recommended and globally accepted method of reducing inflammation, pain, bruising and bleeding after the biopsy procedure. ColdSPOT is a unique product developed by Beekley Medical that precisely discharges this form of treatment. Hospital Managers stand to benefit by elevating the standards of care offered by their institutions.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY SOLUTIONS

Increasing accuracy and patient comfort as well as saving time is the goal of each radiotherapy team. We hereby demonstrate solutions that address these key factors:

1. CT Treatment Planning - Our products address the daily challenges that are associated with the accuracy involved in getting the isocentre during the planning session. Click here for education and application on our unique non-metallic CT-SPOTS pellets, crosshair and line products that image brightly under CT simulation without streaking or artifact.

2. Conventional Treatment Planning - Just like in CT planning, we have a range of products that address the challenges encountered in conventional planning process. Click here to learn about these products.

3. Temporary Marker Protectors - Following simulation, marking of sites has to be done for accurate target treatment replication. This has to be made through permanent or semi-permanent means to avoid re-simulation that has its inherent disadvantages of radiation dose and unnecessary time consumption. Most methods are invasive or potentially irritating to the skin. PointGuards are protective coverlets that can sustain the most non-invasive marker in place for up to four weeks with water-tight sealing allowing the patient to wash the area without any worry of tampering or disappearance. Click here to get education and demonstration on PointGuards.

INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY SOLUTIONS

Image guided procedures are established for biopsy, drainage and other similar situations where minimal invasive entry is needed. The guidance can be achieved through ultrasound, CT scan, fluoroscopy or in some cases MRI. One needle entry is ideal to minimise patient discomfort and save time, thereby increasing your patient throughput. We provide solutions through the Guidelines CT Biopsy Grids manufactured by Beekley Medical. This is a must have tool for the radiologist and department that performs CT guided procedures. MRI AND CT IMAGING SOLUTIONS

MRI diagnosis has superior details in comparison to most other imaging methods and has become a key tool for many doctors including neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons in their day-to-day management of patients. The imaging seeks to answer specific clinical questions. There are several situations that require more close scrutiny specificty between the referring doctor and the imaging team. This ensures that the patient, referring doctor, technologist and interpreting radiologist are all on the same page with a surface (skin) marker in place. Practical examples are in the spine level dtermination, specific musculoskeletal points of pain and required extent of concern like masses. Improvised methods to solve the problem have been in place for a while.

We provide Beekley Medical MR-SPOTS range of skin markers that are specifically designed with a convenient adhesive hold for ease of application. They are also consistently bright on all sequences improving correlation and improved accuracy. Click here to get education and application demonstration on MR-SPOTS.

In some situations, skin marking will also be needed during CT scan procedures. Beekley Medical Localizer Markers will help the radiologist in paying particular attention to some area of concern. This can unravel subtle density changes in a marked area that could characterise an otherwise overlooked small lesion like a lipoma or hernia especially under a very busy working environment, which is a modern day practicality. Click here to learn more about Localizer skin markers.

Multimodality fiducial (Pinpoint) markers that are both bright on CT and MR images are also available where image registration is required. They can also be interchangeably used for the separate imaging modalities. Click here for more information on Pinpoint multimodality fiducial markers.
